VMP supports the Sanctuary Pledge

Posted on April 6, 2010

The VMP strongly supports the Sanctuary Pledge which was officially launched on the 25th of March. The pledge aims to build a political consensus in support of Britain’s current role and proud history of providing sanctuary to people fleeing persecution.

The Sanctuary Pledge campaign is backed by the Vincentian Family and 17 other partner organisations, including the Church of England and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, representing over 7 million people.

The aim is for prospective parliamentary candidates from 200 selected constituencies across the country to sign up to the Sanctuary Pledge. The Pledge calls on politicians to campaign responsibly, positively and sensitively, promote a culture of sanctuary locally and nationally, promote understanding and neighbourliness between local communities, safeguard the long-term future of sanctuary and to support policies to end child detention.
